Gary Stuber; The Master and his Boots..

There is a lot more that goes into making a custom surfboard than most people realize or get to see. And one of the most important parts is the lamination process or “glassing”. And there is no doubt that the best laminator there is, is Gary Stuber, who I am also lucky enough to call my Dad! He has been glassing since the early 60′s (1964 to be exact) and has perfected his craft, and in that time he taught a few select individuals his process. His mastery of infusing color into the resin to create custom touches to boards are well known in the industry. But what I have loved since I was a kid was always his boots and the floor to his room, it’s where all that color and resin ends up in a sort of Jackson Pollack type craziness. And While in San Diego a few weeks back I took a few little pictures. Unfortunatly his floor had just been torn up and laid down with a new cover so there wasn’t much there, but next door was Nainoa Speier who is also an amazing laminator and specializes in color tints. His floor and wall had some cool stuff on it and I got a few shots of both. If you want to know more about Moonlight Glassing click here.
My Dads boots with layers upon layers of resin drips. All of that color is custom mixed by him.
Close up. I love that hot pinkish red color in the foreground.
Ninoa Speier’s mixing bucket display on his wall. Dude is cool as hell. And has a misfits inspired board!

My Dads floor with some blue tint resin on it, and a board that was just finished.

Pops doing a awsome red tint board. (Taken from his facebook also. Sorry.)
